Welcome
to our Covenant Racing Team website. We are delighted
to share the unique history of the creation of
the Covenant Racing Team with you.
In December 1993, Doug and Connie Thompson married.
Doug had been involved in stock car racing from
the age of nine. He had a dream to use the skills,
training and opportunities stock car racing had
given him to glorify the Lord’s name.
Early in their
marriage, Doug and Connie got down on their knees
and asked the Lord to give them an opportunity
to use Doug’s racing career, both past,
present and future, to glorify the Lord’s
name by developing the Covenant Racing Team.
Immediately one
door after another opened to give Doug and Connie
the opportunity to develop the Covenant Racing
Team.
The Covenant
Racing Team expanded its racing operation from
late model dirt track racing in the Midwest to
the NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series followed
by a limited number of races in the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series.
Since 1993 the
Lord has opened the doors for Doug and Connie
to develop Kansas Racing Products. KRP builds
the “Super Duty” cast iron four cylinder
inline block which accepts V-8 small block Chevrolet
cylinder head, Ford SVO V-8 cylinder heads or
Mopar Performance V-8 cylinder heads. KRP also
manufactures intake manifolds, crankshafts and
other component parts.
The Covenant
Racing Team also developed the Kansas Auto Racing
Museum located ½ mile south of Interstate-70
at Chapman, Kansas. The Kansas Auto Racing Museum
is home to the first NASCAR trophy, first NHRA
trophy, restored race cars, rare film footage
and memorabilia highlighting the rich, proud racing
tradition of Kansas. The museum has developed
into one of the finest tourist attractions along
I-70.
The Lord blessed
the racing operation by allowing Doug and Connie
to acquire interest in the Jayhawk Racing Journal.
The JRJ provides weekly racing coverage for sixty
race tracks throughout six states in the Midwest.
In 2003 the Covenant
Racing Team returned to its grassroots of late
model, sprint car and modified racing throughout
the Midwest.
2004 has seen
the Covenant Racing Team take another leap forward
with its reverse sponsorship of American Family
Radio. Covenant Racing Team actively solicits
deserving racing teams to pre-designate a race
for American Family Radio.
All of the proceeds
of the pre-designated race go directly to American
Family Radio to support the many ministry functions
of AFR.
Race teams carry
the Covenant Racing Team logo as a member of the
Covenant Racing Team as well as the American Family
Radio decal to signify their support of AFR.
Covenant Racing
Team owner Doug Thompson stated, “The good
Lord has blessed us with 353 feature wins, nine
track championships, three Kansas State titles,
two Nationals and lots of good friends. The Lord
took a negative in my life and turned around the
racing skills and organizational ability to a
positive through the development of the Covenant
Racing Team. Once I made the commitment to the
Lord he has been absolutely, totally faithful
to Covenant Racing Team and it has been one miracle
after another.”
Connie Thompson
stated, “It’s awesome to see the Lord’s
hand at work with Covenant Racing Team. Doug and
I have seen one miracle after another for Covenant
Racing Team and we know the Lord has many more
miracles in store for this operation.”
Be sure
and stay in touch as the blessings are passed
on we will share the vision with you.
